چکیده

The transformers are designed to transmit and distribute electrical power. Depending on the size of the requirement, replacement costs will be more if any fault occurs. Performing offline and invasive test also added to the replacement cost. Hence there is an increasing need to move from traditional schedule based maintenance programs to condition based maintenance. A large number of techniques are available for transformer health monitoring however a focused approach is required for diagnostics. Considering the long service life of a power transformer and prevalent use of human judgment, there is a need to structure a knowledge base around expert knowledge while continuing to create new diagnostic capabilities which can be plugged in. A novel method of online detection of the faults in the transformer is done by using the spectral signature of the flux emitted by the transformer during the running condition. In the flux based transformed fault identification region based fault can be detected at the earlier stage. From the experimental result it has concluded that flux based fault detection is efficient method for prefault detection when compared to the existing method. The flux based fault discrimation in transformer is more efficient.

transformer differential protection using the fault-generated high-frequency transient components

Power transformers are the most important components of a power system, so their protection is a critical issue. This paper proposes a novel and efficient algorithm based on the high-frequency components of the differential current signal to discriminate between the magnetizing inrush currents and the internal faults. After detecting the over-current in the differential current signals, samples...

Classification of Transient Phenomena in Power Transformers Based on a Wavelet-ANN Approach

This paper presents an efficient wavelet and neural network (WNN) based approach for distinguishing magnetizing inrush currents from internal fault currents in three phase power transformers. The wavelet transform is applied first to decompose the current signals of the power transformer into a series of detailed wavelet components. The values of the detailed coefficients obtained can discrimin...

A Novel Flux-Based Protection Scheme for Power Transformers

Internal Turn-Turn faults (TTF) are the most common failures in power transformers, which could seriously reduce their life expectancy. Although common protection schemes such as current-baseddifferential protection are able to detect some of the internal faults, some other minor ones (such as TTFs andshort circuit near the neutral point) cannot be detected by such schemes. Likewise, these rela...

Discrimination of Inrush from Fault Currents in Power Transformers Based on Equivalent Instantaneous Inductance Technique Coupled with Finite Element Method

The phenomenon of magnetizing inrush is a transient condition, which occurs primarily when a transformer is energized. The magnitude of inrush current may be as high as ten times or more times of transformer rated current that causes malfunction of protection system. So, for safe running of a transformer, it is necessary to distinguish inrush current from fault currents. In this paper, an equiv...
